NACE Update from President Rich Sanders

Is it fall or winter? Ever since returning from Orange Beach, Alabama, it has been unseasonably cold in Polk County. Then you have the beginning of October-- rain then 5 inches of snow that lasted for 4 days. High temperatures in the 30’s and lows in the 20’s. I was really looking forward to San Antonio, TX and the TECERA Annual Conference where NACE would hold its Fall Board Meeting. Warm weather, a little golf and then spending time with the Executive Committee and Board of Director doing the work of NACE, and our Texas County Engineer friends finding out how NACE can help them do their work. Well as soon as I arrived, the temperatures dropped from 90 to 55. Sun to rain. I was still able to get out and get nine holes in, and both the Executive Committee and Board of Directors had very productive meetings. We learned that NACE is in excellent financial health, even with all the expenses that goes with hiring two new employees. We heard that Kansas is doing a great job along with Staci and Ruth (Lola), getting NACE 2019 put together so that we can have another successful NACE Annual Conference. Kevan explained all the work he has been doing over the past 5 months. He has been speaking at different conferences, meeting our members and visiting with County Commissioners about why their county is not a member of NACE. Because of his discussions, we have new county members in Georgia, Kentucky and soon Nevada. Others to come soon. We heard about how Staci’s background in the Regional Airline Association has already benefited NACE with exhibitors and sponsors. NACE is doing great. Thank you TACERA for the great hospitality and hosting our meetings.

Since my last article, football season has started, and I have been busy officiating High School and College Football. October is the beginning of the annual sugar beet harvest, which means I have spent time away from work driving a semi-tractor trailer full of beets to the Crookston Plant of American Crystal Sugar. So help the economy of Polk County and buy ACS Sugar! My next travel will include state conferences in California, Ohio, and Iowa and the Rural Road Safety Summit in Savannah GA. If you can attend the Summit, please do. Would love to see a great NACE presence there!
