NACE Update from President Rich Sanders

Well, Labor Day has come and gone…in Polk County, that means it’s time to start thinking about the sugar beet harvest which includes plowing mud off the roads and getting our plows ready for another winter of fun. We will start stockpiling sand and salt to insure our intersections, hills, and curves stay free from ice and snow.

I forgot how fast summers go. Take into account four trips around the nation, starting in June, with the last being in late August to Orange Beach, Alabama and the Perdido Beach Resort for the ACCA Annual Conference. Thank you to all that made this trip so memorable for Ruth and me. This time of the year I am also required to get a budget developed for approval by September 25th. The next thing you know construction is wrapping up and the summer is gone. I enjoy golfing with my lovely wife Ruth (Lola) and the guys during the summer. This summer’s golf was extra special as I had my first hole in one on August 9th. Now it’s onto fall and officiating high school and college football and watching my beloved Packers play football. I also take two weeks off to drive a sugar beet truck starting on October 1st.  On October 15th and 16th we will have our NACE Fall EC and Board Meetings as part of TACERA Annual Conference in San Antonio, TX. I don’t think fall will go by any slower than summer.

A couple of things you should look forward to
-    Our NACE Grant will come to conclusion on September 30th, with a final report to follow shortly after.
-    On December 4th -6th we will again co-host a Rural Road Safety Summit in Savannah, GA. For more information on h ow you can attend and participate, click here.

The last bit of exciting news is Kevan filled our open position with Staci Morgan. She came to us via the Regional Airline Association.  I am looking forward to working with her, Kevan and the Kansas Delegation to make sure NACE in Wichita is where everyone wants to be in April.
